Summary of the Book: Administrative Effectiveness in the Institution

The book "Administrative Effectiveness in the Institution" comprises four chapters. The first chapter delves into administrative effectiveness in detail from a sociological perspective, covering the characteristics of administration, administrative levels, key administrative processes, the evolution of administrative thought and theories, criteria for measuring administrative effectiveness, and methods of administrative evaluation. The author then provides a detailed discussion on school administration as a model for administration and as an introduction to two field studies examined in the final two chapters of the book.

In the second chapter, we study human relations as the most crucial element or characteristic of any administration, whether it is of a service or production institution. This is done through a historical overview of the emergence of human relations, followed by principles and goals of human relations, its interests in the institution, factors contributing to achieving human relations, and finally, a presentation of the main criticisms directed at the theory of human relations. The last two chapters of the book present two field studies closely linked to the chapters of the first book. The third chapter deals with a field study entitled "Organizational Values and Their Relationship to the Effectiveness of School Administration," and the final chapter examines another field study titled "Human Relations and Their Relationship to the Effectiveness of School Administration."

Our era is witnessing rapid development in all aspects of economic, social, cultural, and political life. As a result of this development, organizations have grown and increased in importance in society, and their survival has become dependent on their ability to compete amid growing economic openness. This realization has led many researchers and those interested in the field of organization and administration to understand that discussing an effective organization is not possible without focusing on the human element as one of the key components of any successful organization.

The book "Administrative Effectiveness in the Institution" affirms that an organization is a social unit established purposefully to achieve specific goals, and administration, as part of the organization, encompasses all activities aimed at achieving certain goals using all available resources efficiently under different conditions. Most researchers have focused their attention on studying organizational and administrative effectiveness, considering them as two main axes in the sociology of organization, like other directly related disciplines.

The topic of effectiveness is considered ambiguous due to the different perspectives of studies, making it a subject that requires further in-depth research across many disciplines to reach practical evidence that organizations, whether industrial or service-oriented, can rely on to achieve the desired effectiveness. This cannot be accomplished without serious administration, considering it a crucial part of any organization. Therefore, the topic of organizational effectiveness has always occupied and continues to occupy the minds of many scholars and researchers.

The author's first book, "Organizational Effectiveness in the Institution: A Sociological Approach," addressed a field study in a production institution, discussing the variables of this book. He noted in the introduction of the first book that there would be a second book that complements and builds on its findings, titled "Administrative Effectiveness in the Institution: A Sociological Approach," which comprises four chapters.

The book emphasizes that every organization is founded on achieving clearly defined and pre-planned goals, and every administration, regardless of the nature of the organization or institution it manages, has a set of goals it strives to achieve effectively. The book "Administrative Effectiveness in the Institution" studies administrative effectiveness by taking school administration as a model for service-oriented organizations, after examining administrative effectiveness in general. It presents some basics for understanding administration and then dedicates other elements to more detailed aspects of administrative effectiveness, ultimately providing a model of administration represented by school administration as one of the most crucial service administrations in any society.
